The waste air purification plant which is unique in the world has gone into operation Print

“The commissioning of the new waste air purification plant has enabled us to succeed in two decisive things: we are making an important contribution to protecting the environment and ensure that we have competitive advantages in the long term“, said Hans-Bernd Stork, managing partner of the company with the same name. The company which was founded in 1927 offers everything to do with painting and coating in addition to corrosion protection and the blasting of stainless steels at its registered office in the Körnebachstrasse. Last year, its employees which number around 100, used around 220 tonnes of paint, blasted 100,000 tonnes of steel and treated around 80,000 square metres of stainless steel. The customers who availed themselves of these services included leading excavator, construction machines and crane manufacturers, in addition to a major part of the German beverages industry and international mining supports sector.

With the new waste air purification plant, the company which is family-owned in the fourth generation is the first one in the world to use a special process combination. This filters “Volatile Organic Compounds“ (VOCs) out of the air. “VOCs result from each coating and painting process, our daily work. They exist in the form of solvents in the paints which are used for coating on an industrial scale“, explained Felix Stork, the authorised signatory of the company and Hans-Bernd Stork’s son.

In recent years, the EU directives and the German Clean Air Act (TA-Luft) which regulates the emission of these pollutants have been greatly tightened: the VOCs have to be subjected to treatment in a waste air purification plant if they exceed a quantity of 15 tonnes per year.  Stork takes a relaxed view of the future as far as this is concerned. “The high-tech plant enables us to process orders without any quantity restrictions“, explained Stork junior.

The family-owned company has invested more than 2.2 million euros in the “air purification project“. The 25 year-old master painter and spray painter also explained that “Just under three and a half years expired between the initial idea of procuring such a plant, to the design, official permits and the construction“.
